Top Tips for Storing Outdoor Furniture

If you own a patio and have furniture on it, it would make sense that you will need to pack the furniture away for the upcoming winter months. You might have a basement or attic, but if you don’t, where are you going to put it? If you do, would it not be great to have more space? If you want to give yourself more space, storing outdoor furniture in a storage unit is a great decision. If you are looking to move into storage for the first time, we got you covered. Check out our tips below.

Measure Your Furniture

When you first choose your rented unit, you will notice a wide variety of sizes. You need to check the dimensions of your unit first, write them down, and then measure all your furniture. Know that you can and should stack furniture vertically, especially chairs. After that, ensure that you move furniture under the measurements you outlined, and you will be able to fill up your space without making multiple trips.

Clean and Disassemble Your Furniture

The first thing you should do is clean and dust down your furniture before you put it into storage. This is especially important if you know you will not see it again until you experience another seasonal change. If you have wooden furniture, get a microfiber cloth and clean it with warm water and soap. If your furniture has upholstery, you should also whip out a hand vacuum to get up any crumbs. If it comes in multiple parts, disassemble it! This will make it far easier to pack up and move in the long run. It will weigh less and be far more manageable. You will even be able to fit more in the unit.

Use Furniture Covers

If you want to protect your furniture from dust that might accrue while it sits in your unit, we would recommend furniture covers. This will protect your furniture from dust and grime and make it look brand new whenever you decide to pull it back out of the rented space. Dust buildup can eventually lead to staining and can even damage wood and upholstery over time. If you want your furniture in tip-top shape, get a dust cover!
